Landfill Gas Capture
In these programs, methane is collected from landfills and then either flared (burned) or used as an energy source, typically for electricity generation. By capturing and destroying methane, which has a much higher global warming potential than carbon dioxide (CO₂), these programs help mitigate the impact of methane on climate change. Some projects capture methane instead of flaring so it can be converted into electricity or heat, providing a renewable energy source while reducing the need for fossil fuels.
