Blue Carbon
Blue carbon refers to the carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems such as mangroves, salt marshes, seagrasses, and other marine plants. These ecosystems are highly efficient at removing CO₂ from the atmosphere and can absorb many times more carbon per acre than land-based ecosystems. In addition to carbon removal, blue carbon projects also promote aquatic biodiversity, improve climate resilience, and help prevent floods and storm surges.
