Biochar

Biochar is a carbon-rich form of charcoal that’s produced by burning biomass in a low oxygen environment (pyrolysis). It is resistent to natural decay and can store carbon for hundreds of years. Beyond removing carbon from the atmosphere, biochar offers important co-benefits such as improving soil quality and crop yields, reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers, removing pollutants from the air and water, and co-generating energy during the pyrolysis process.
